Lukazz and Ice: 9/30/2019

Poor Lukazz. Here is a perfect example of how our cultures are different. Most people in Kenya do not have ice unless they have money. A refrigerator is a luxury item where he comes from. So, one day, I showed Lukazz the ice maker in my fridge. It was one that dispensed from the door. He had never seen one before, so I showed it to him. I took a video of it dispensing my ice, then a pic of the top of my ice in my cup. He thought it was cool. (Pardon the pun.)

Well...the other day he went with his housemate's wife to one of her friend's houses. While they were talking, he noticed she had a refrigerator, and broke away to look at it. He got curious and wanted to see if she had ice. Sure enough there was ice. Neither woman noticed him grab a piece and pop it into the back of his mouth. He wanted to experience the ice that his American mom had shown him.

What he didn't know is that the ice was so cold that it stuck to the back of his mouth and throat. He didn't know what to do, because he didn't want the ladies to know he had taken the ice without asking. He also had no access to water for some reason, so he had to wait for it to melt to unstick. Anyone who has watched A Christmas Story has seen the kid who stuck his tongue to the frozen pole. Yea...same effect here. Bless his heart. He didn't know any better. The next day he is complaining to me how he hates ice and will never eat it again. his tongue and back of the throat were numb from a slight case of frostbite and he couldn't taste anything. It must be pure evil as far as he is concerned.

It took me half an hour to explain to him, that he wasn't supposed to EAT the ice. He was supposed to put it in a drink or at least get the ice wet first. He is still pissed at the ice and wants nothing to do with it.
